what am I missing?

DAY BEFORE

  • One or two electrolyte drinks
  • Go to sleep early, you need to be rested
  • Try to wake up/go as early as possible

BEFORE the RUN

  • Drink water/electrolytes or sodium pills
  • Wear SPF
  • Wear anti-chafing
  • Wear hair mask/thermal protection for hair/scalp
  • Wear light colored clothes that hopefully won’t chafe

PREP/Bring

  • water/drink if needed
  • Refillable bottle
  • Gel if needed
  • Fast chews or salt pills
  • Hat (with a wet sponge under it) or visor
  • Sunglasses
  • Biofreeze for cooling sensation
  • Headband for face sweat

DURING

  • Keep your clothes wet if possible
  • Keep your head sponge wet, dripping even
  • Look for breeze and shade
  • Adjust your effort level, slow down as needed

    Great tips. After my long, hot runs – I love having a nice watermelon, tomato, cucumber salad to sneak in some “extra” hydration. Of course, that’s in addition to my recovery beer. 😉
