NYCM2011: Beyond The Finish Line (finally the last post!)

I come into the finish line; Mary Wittenberg and I high five and we both shout out (you can see it in this video, I am aaaaall the way to the right).

I love her, not that you haven’t heard that a hundred times. (the third video is pretty hilarious, I finish and then I almost topple over)…
Then I chatted at the finish for a bit with everybody, lots of hugs. I even talked a bit to Ed Norton and Trista (…from the Bachelorette)

Then I get escorted into the VIP tent as, apparently, I was not eating and/or making any sense… I was feeling tired… Not to complain a lot, but I kept getting stopped!!! And all I wanted was some food, or water, or a chair, or anything. Pretty Please!!! I really don’t know how famous people get ANYTHING done!

There was no walk to the UPS trucks to get our stuff, it was all in the tent (fabulous!) so I don’t have the typical finish line picture, but I got my medal! YEY!
I found all the other boro runnerss there (did it take me that long to get to the tent?). We talk about the race, we hug a lot, man they’re so osom!!! More pictures and finally some real food. I never drink soda but all I wanted was Coke…!

As soon as I ate a bit, I escaped to the ladies’ lounge. There was a long line and they all so graciously let me go first… LOVE NYC people! The funniest thing happened, someone mentioned my nails, and it turned out, I wasn’t the only one!! A 5 year old girl had the same nails!!

Isn’t that the most adorable thing ever? I even thought, for a second, it would be cute to have a spawn! ;-P
By then, our friends and family had moved over from the bleechers to the tent, so we were all sitting and eating and having fun chit chatting for a while. I run into everyone in the tent!!! My friend (and NYRR Coach) John, who you saw in two posts this past week (the Run with Ryan/Bart one, and the expo one) had paced Apolo Ohno to a 3:25, which is fabulous for this first, but John is a 800 meter guy so he was… sitting down! Hilarious. Anyway, EVERYONE was there!
Then we are off outside for the NBC live broadcast as they were about to close transmission.

I finished with a word in Spanish (which I can’t remember if it was INCREIBLE or IMPRESIONANTE), which totally threw him off, hahahhaha, you should have seen his face!!!! 😉

We went back in, I had a second lunch of course and more Coke, and desert, I was eating like I hadn’t polished 1.5 Nutella jars the day before and a gel every 5 miles on the course… So we all hang out for a while…
Marathon (58)
but I had no phone reception in there, so eventually we got up, hugged it out, promised to run again soon together, and headed to my team’s party, where everyone was wearing some marathon bling, though some of them were showered and smelling nice!

and it was over… just like another Marathon Sunday… though this was not your regular marathon Sunday. I am already excited for next year, I’ll be glad to run with the masses, and hear lots of cheering NYers carrying us thru the streets… Hopefully I’ll be in better shape, though if all goes well, I’ll be running Berlin a few weeks before and NYCM will another tour thru the city, as I like to do on each first November Sunday.. I dare anyone or anything to try to stop me. Again. Here’s to another glorious Fall November morning in my city in 12 months. Salud!
